News and Updates

GOVERNOR'S HOME TOWN AWARD Brookfield received the Governor's Home Town Award (GHTA) for our Project N.I.C.E. 2008 day of service!

Community projects from calendar year 2008 were eligible for the competition. The Brookfield Beautification Committee submitted an in depth application for the award last spring. Brookfield was selected as a finalist based on this application. Two judges selected by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity then visited us on Wednesday, August 5 for a one hour, on-site community project presentation. Village representatives traveled to Springfield on October 29th to receive the award and brought home a Governor's Home Town Award plaque and road sign to proudly display in Kiwanis Park at the entrance to Village Hall.

Thanks to the entire community who supported this event, especially our 300+ volunteers who came out to make a difference for Project N.I.C.E. 2008!

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY
The Beautification Committee has been approved through IDOT to be part of the Adopt-A-Highway program. The Beautification Committee is scheduled for eight clean up days over the next two years beginning in May 2009. Committee members will clean up trash along Ogden Avenue from Custer to Eberly. IDOT has placed Adopt-A-Highway signs along Ogden Avenue– check them out!

ADOPT-A-SPOT
The Brookfield Adopt-A-Spot program provides individuals, families, organizations and businesses with the opportunity to volunteer to adopt a designated area of the Village for a one-year period.  Volunteers help pick up litter and pull weeds from flowerbeds in parks, landscaped traffic islands, historical markers and other public spaces. See list of spots, application and waivers below.

Adopt-A-Spot Service Opportunities: Are you part of a group that is looking for service opportunities but can only commit one or two days per year? Does your company require service hours from you each year? Give us a call and we will help you organize a day of service at one or more of our sites.
